Since my life constantly revolves around family, children, books, church, translation, and other 'n' activities, I thought it would be useful to share with you my small discoveries, those which I believe truly deserve to be passed on. I confess that I also enjoy reading contemporary prayers or spiritual books; I feel that I relate more to their language and experiences, which seem closer to our everyday struggles.
Sometimes, we need someone else's words to decipher our own wounds. Therefore, when Father Grigore-Dinu Moș ‒ my confessor's confessor ‒ wrote a book containing 21 prayers, I eagerly awaited the right moment to read them. Once I started reading them, I couldn't stop. That's why I wholeheartedly encourage you to read it too.
His words possess a cutting sincerity that moves the heart from its depths. They don't let it remain hardened by habit, but rather shake it, forcing it to look in the mirror. The book is titled 'The Forgotten Face of Repentance – 21 Prayers for the Latter Times'. I know that, in today's fast-paced rhythm, we all tend to flee from moments of introspection, but I would be overjoyed if you would linger on the fragment below. It is a part of a prayer that I liked very much and which, I hope, will touch your soul just as it touched mine:
„Teach me all things, as parents teach their infant to walk and speak: how to pray, how to fight passions, how to believe and to hope, how to love my neighbor, what to say and what to do. Remain inseparable from me and teach me to be one with You in all movements of mind and heart!
Christ, my God, remember how You grew as an infant, resting in Your Mother's arms, and grant me the strength to grow spiritually, remaining steadfast in Your will. Heal the wounds of my childhood, heal the wound of Adam in my soul! Wipe away the abominable stain of my sins! Heal my unbelief and pride, and cure my fears! For mine is only the shame of my face, and Yours is the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
