VIDEO! What Death Has Christ Delivered Us From?

Publish Date

Hieromonk Rafail Noica speaks to us

„From what death has Christ delivered us?” I would answer thus: from the death of ignorance of God, which befell us precisely from tasting the tree of knowledge. Just as the question struck me as wonderful, so too I feel compelled to say that the answer thunderstruck me: The death of ignorance of God, which befell us precisely through tasting the tree of knowledge, but forgive me, from now on I would like to say „the wood of knowledge“ (this was the older translation).

Our language, which has known the spirit of Orthodoxy, has acquired certain formulas, certain expressions, and a certain vocabulary, but not fully, and with the onslaught of modernity, we are losing them. It is very important not to lose the word and the meaning of the word. The word is not just a carrier of information; the word has energy; this energy is salvific, and if not, it risks being lethal. The Word is one of the names of Christ – the Word of God.

Father Sophrony considered that the greatest curse is not knowing God. I suspect that many of our contemporaries are „doing just fine“ without God. We miss Him a little, perhaps we also face difficulties and remember that God also exists, and perhaps He helps us when others cannot, but we do not realize that something has died in our soul, and we do not realize it precisely because we are dead, and death means the fact of not knowing God.
